Step 1 — Get your university acceptance letter You cannot apply for a study permit without a Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. The university application comes first.
Step 2 — Gather your documents You will need your passport, acceptance letter, proof of funds (minimum $10,000 in your bank account), IELTS results (6.0 or above), academic transcripts, and a statement of purpose.
Step 3 — Apply online via IRCC Create an account on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website and submit your application online. The processing fee is CAD $150.
Step 4 — Biometrics You will be asked to provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at the nearest Visa Application Centre. In Kenya this is in Nairobi.
Step 5 — Wait for a decision Processing typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. You can check your application status online at any time.
